Ants
There are believed to be more than 12,000 ant species worldwide. But in the UK, the most common household species include Carpenter ants or Pharaoh ants.
Though their name suggests otherwise, Carpenter ants won’t help you construct a beautiful wooden structure. They’ll do the exact opposite, tunnelling through damp wood, taking out chunks as they go. They get their name because these ‘silent destroyers’ excavate wood to build their nests. So if you’re keen to eliminate ants from the area, pest control is necessary.
While Pharaoh ants are a tropical species, they are now common in the UK, found in heated buildings, like hospitals, restaurants and offices.
